This Library Life showcases unique and innovative library services, programs, and events happening across the United States.
I’m interested, but what’s “unique”? What’s “innovative”?
We define “unique” or “innovative” as something special that adds a different kind of value to the community to make people stop and think, “What the what? The library does that?” Already, libraries across the country are offering events that push beyond the book club and summer reading programs. We want to move folks from “The library does that?” to “My library does that.”
We recognize libraries across the country are doing wonderful things all the time. What we want to highlight are the services, programs, and events library staff develop to connect with a specific community or service area.
This Library Life will include only those programs, projects, services, and events facilitated through the library itself. The good deeds, actions, or philanthropy of librarians as private citizens do not qualify.
Additionally, This Library Life recognizes that a rural library in a remote location will have different offerings than a metropolitan and connected library in a more populated state. We want to recognize the efforts of those small libraries, therefore we will take the context of a program within a community into consideration.
